Talk of the town
Thuggerdaily Speaks
- about a guy (maybe not a guy, since they’re anon), who did a deep dive on Young Thug’s trial
- “The state claimed Thug had said he had put, like, a twenty-million bounty on somebody’s head,” … I knew that was a lie. He was talking about a different rapper having a twenty-four-million dollar diamond surgically installed on his forehead."
Stitching Oz
- “tomorrow I’ll be starting the first day of a new Spielberg film. I can’t say what it is."
Bookworm
- on Thurston Moore - and his lack of TEA spilled about his f-ing up Sonic Youth and his marriage.
- but his love for first edition books.
the piece takes place at the Strand Bookstore, where another piece I read about Tom Verlaine and Thurston running into each other there at some point … pitchfork maybe?
- Reading Harry Crews - who SY were all apparently into (according to serial cheater and known fabulist Moore) is also who MJ Lenderman purported to be really into reading.
She confided to me that what she most dreads hearing from any chef are the words 'I have an idea.'
- His films don't make money: "Von Lux;" "The Childhood of a Leader."
- His response was to go bigger.
- Pres. Trump and his love for "beautiful architecure" comes up. The Brutalist style doesn't fit into this category, of course.
Outside man
What better time to read a story about an Oscar nominated film than after the Oscars themselves. Reading past NYer issues and working my way through the stack is like traveling through time.
These works ... earned him a reputation as a budding American auteur, precise and uncompromising in his artistic vision, fiercely ambitious about the kinds of stories he wants to tell and the way in which he wants to tell them.
Ok ... but why did he get money to tell these stories that not many people care about? How does that happen? Not that it shouldn't happen, but how and why?
